Andile Phehlukwayo wins the Player of the Match Award. He says it was nice to be out and play, a bit emotional but he is happy to come back. Adds it is difficult to be injured but he worked hard to get back and play. Reckons the support has been fantastic for the team and hopes it continues.
David Miller says Pretoria Capitals put them under pressure at the start but their bowlers came back strongly. Shares they have a really nice bowling attack. Adds it is difficult for anyone to hit from ball one. Reckons this competition is growing fro strength to strength and ends by thanking the crowd for the support.
James Neesham says it was not an ideal surface to bat. They did well to restrict them to a par score but it was difficult to bat in the second innings. Adds Paarl Royals seamers bowled well. Tells the surface will be different in other matches, they are disappointing with their batting but they will dust this off and come back stronger.
...Presentation next...
Paarl Royals will be happy with this win. They batted well but it was the bowlers who won them the match. Lungi Ngidi and Obed McCoy in particular, the way they bowled at the start made a whole lot of difference. They varied pace and bowled different lengths which made Pretoria Capitals inconsistent. The other bowlers too kept it simple and nice. Earlier, Paarl Royals got to a great start but it was the partnership between David Miller and Mitchell van Buuren that changed the complexion of the game. However, it was Andile Phehlukwayo's cameo in the end that turned out to be a match-winning one.
The runners-up of the last season have started this season on a wrong note. The Capitals were cruising at one stage. Phil Salt led the chase but once they started to lose wickets, the pressure climbed up on the Capitals. Even at the halfway mark, Pretoria Capitals were on track with the required run rate. However, they lacked application as even if one of the top order batter had stayed till the end, it would have been a different result. Also, had Neesham took the strike a lot more in the fag end could have got closer to the chase.
