That is it from this game. On 20th January, we have two matches but first, we will see Adelaide Strikers take on Perth Scorchers at 1100 IST (0530 GMT). Do join us early for the coverage. Till then, goodbye and cheers.
Matthew Gilkes is the Player of the Match. He says he had a bit of luck and sight of relive when the catch was dropped. Adds it is unbelievable to play with Warner, says he helps him a lot. Reckons he thinks more tactically as it was tough to score and he tried not to take many risks. Feels it was a must win and hopes to take the momentum forward.
....Presentation time...
Melbourne Renegades knew they were 10-15 runs short but the knock from Will Sutherland did gave them some hope to bowl. They though didn't use the pitch to the most as there were not many slower balls as we saw from Sydney Thunder. Corey Rocchiccioli got two in two and could have got another one but Fawad Ahmed dropped a sitter and Matthew Gilkes made the most of the lifeline. What turned out to be the match-winning knock. Credit to the bowlers of Sydney Thunder for the way they bowled. Apart from the final over, they bowled brilliantly.
A well calculated chase from Sydney Thunder. They now reach to 12 points with Melbourne Renegades. Sydney Thunder needed a par total and had a watchful start with both Gilkes and Warner composed with their shots. The latter fell and Oliver Davies followed him on the next ball. At that point it looked like this will go down till the end but Alex Ross joined Gilkes and slowly dried the pressure and chased it down with ease. Matthew Gilkes was the mainstay as he stayed till the end and scored a fifty.
