Right then, New Zealand find themselves in complete control of this Test, firmly building on their lead and now aiming to bat India out of the game by prolonging their stay at the crease. As for India, they’ll need to regroup quickly and find a way to break this partnership after the break. Do join us back at 6.40 am GMT for the start of the second session.
Rachin Ravindra picked up where he left off on Day 2 and even with the wickets falling around him, he held his composure. He found an able ally in Tim Southee and their unbeaten 112-run stand took the wind out of India's sails. Rachin, in particular, went into overdrive, taking on both Indian spinners with ease on his way to his second Test ton. Despite the onslaught, Rohit Sharma persisted with spin from both ends and it looked like the hosts just went through the motions for the remainder of the session.
End of an eventful session where New Zealand pressed home the advantage despite India's promising start. A tale of two halves with the first half going India's way where they picked up the first 4 wickets for 53 runs. At that stage, it looked India could manage to keep the lead under 200. All their hard work was undone by the counter-attacking partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee. 165 runs were scored in the 31 overs bowled in the session with the last 4 overs going for 58 runs, helping the tourists to stretch their lead to 299.

HUNDRED FOR RACHIN RAVINDRA! A truly special innings from the southpaw, one he will cherish for a long time. Made even more meaningful as he brings it up in Bengaluru, where his roots lie. Ashwin drifts it down leg, on a fuller length, Rachin Ravindra reaches out in front and stays low to play the sweep. Plays it very fine and beats the deep fine leg fielder to his left for a boundary. Takes the helmet off and soaks in the applause from the crowd and his teammates.
